The Philippine government has expressed strong support for the newly announced ceasefire between Israel and Iran, calling it a hopeful development in the pursuit of peace across the volatile Middle East region.
In a statement released by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), the Philippines said it “welcomes the US announcement of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran,” emphasizing its hope that the agreement would serve as “a crucial step towards achieving lasting peace in the region.”
The DFA further encouraged all sides to continue engaging in constructive dialogue and negotiations, noting that only sustained diplomatic efforts can lead to a permanent resolution of the conflict.
The ceasefire, announced by U.S. President Donald Trump earlier this week, brought a halt to 12 days of escalating hostilities that saw deadly exchanges of missiles and airstrikes between the two longtime adversaries. While the truce appears to be holding for now, international observers have warned that it remains fragile and dependent on continued restraint.
