Philippines, Slovenia ink deal to expand job opportunities for OFWs

Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) may soon gain wider access to employment in Slovenia following the signing of a new labor cooperation agreement between the two countries, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced.

In a statement, the DMW confirmed that it entered into a Joint Declaration of Intent (JDI) with the Employment Service of Slovenia (ESS) to enhance bilateral cooperation on labor mobility, employment facilitation, and migrant worker protection.

“The signing reaffirms both nations’ shared commitment to promoting safe, orderly, and ethical labor migration while upholding the rights and welfare of Filipino workers in Slovenia,” the DMW said.

The agency added that the declaration will soon be translated into “concrete programs and cooperative mechanisms” to improve institutional linkages, strengthen worker protection systems, and open more meaningful employment opportunities for Filipinos.

Slovenia, identified by the DMW as one of the Philippines’ emerging labor markets in Europe, is particularly seeking to hire caregivers and healthcare professionals from the country.

Official records show that 462 Filipinos are currently working in Slovenia, mainly in the fields of accounting, customer service, and healthcare.
