Filipino soups sinigang and bulalo have once again earned global recognition, securing spots on TasteAtlas’ 2024 list of the 50 Best Soups in the World. The latest rankings saw sinigang, in its collective form, rise to 17th place from 42nd last year. Meanwhile, bulalo also made an impressive leap, climbing to 37th from 43rd in 2023. Sinigang na baboy, a specific variant of sinigang, was also featured on the list, securing the 38th spot.
Sinigang is celebrated for its versatility, often flavored with tamarind and featuring various proteins like pork, fish, shrimp, or beef. TasteAtlas praised it as a “true representative of Filipino cuisine” due to its unique sour and light flavor, which complements the country’s tropical climate.
Bulalo, known for its simple yet robust flavor, is made by simmering beef shanks and marrow bones until the broth becomes rich and flavorful. The dish typically includes vegetables such as cabbage, string beans, and corn, adding depth to its savory taste.
TasteAtlas is an international online publication that showcases the best of local foods worldwide, and it regularly features Filipino dishes in its rankings. Sinigang, which was also named among the Top 100 Best Dishes globally by the publication in 2023, continues to highlight the richness of Filipino culinary tradition.
