President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has stated that the Philippine government will not cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC) in its ongoing probe. In an ambush interview in Quezon City, Marcos emphasized that he does not recognize the ICC’s jurisdiction in the Philippines, considering it a threat to the country’s sovereignty.
“I do not recognize the jurisdiction of ICC in the Philippines. I consider this as a threat to our sovereignty. Therefore, the Philippine government will not lift a finger to help any investigation that the ICC conducts. However, as ordinary people, they can come and visit the Philippines,” said Marcos.
While maintaining a stance of non-cooperation, Marcos noted that the government would monitor the presence of ICC investigators. If the investigators attempt to probe government agencies, those agencies will be instructed not to entertain them.
“We do not recognize your jurisdiction; therefore, we will not assist in any way, shape, or form in any investigation that the ICC is doing in the Philippines,” Marcos concluded.
