Philippines ranked as the most emotional country in the world, says Gallup survey

The Philippines has topped the list of the world’s most emotional countries, based on a global survey conducted by analytics firm Gallup and visualized by World Visualized. According to the report, 60 percent of Filipinos said they experienced at least one strong emotion—be it joy, anger, stress, worry, or sadness—the day before the survey was conducted.

Gallup defines “emotional” as the frequency of intense emotional experiences, regardless of whether they are positive or negative. The organization surveyed respondents in over 150 countries to determine how often people felt strong emotions.

The 60 percent score earned by the Philippines underscores what Gallup described as the nation’s “vibrant culture,” where expressing emotions is a natural and open part of everyday life. It noted that in societies like the Philippines—marked by close family ties, shared communal values, and even warm weather—emotional expression is not only accepted but encouraged.

Other countries that made the top tier of the emotional index include El Salvador, Bahrain, Oman, and Colombia. Meanwhile, Chile, Costa Rica, Canada, Guatemala, and Bolivia also ranked high, along with Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Nicaragua, and the United States.

Gallup emphasized that high emotional scores aren’t necessarily negative; rather, they reflect how connected people are to their feelings and the freedom they have to express them.
