A Filipino artist from Quezon has been distinguished as one of the awardees for the prestigious 6th International Prize for Leonardo da Vinci (Special Edition Gold), taking place on April 13, 2024, at the National Museum of Science and Technology “Leonardo da Vinci” in Milan, Italy.
Alyssa Lucelle E. Reynales, representing the Philippines, marks a significant moment as she becomes the youngest Filipina artist from Quezon to receive this esteemed accolade, highlighting her extraordinary talent and contribution to the global art scene.
Reflecting on her achievement, Reynales shares with The Global Filipino Magazine, “It is one of the most prestigious art awards awarded in the heart of Milan. Being chosen is truly humbling and exhilarating. It fills me with an overwhelming sense of gratitude. To be associated with the legacy of Leonardo da Vinci, one of the greatest polymaths and creative minds in history, is both awe-inspiring and daunting.”
As an artist representing the Philippines on a global scale, Reynales feels a profound sense of pride and responsibility.
“I am committed to using this chance to amplify marginalized voices, advocate for community change, and inspire future generations of artists to dream big and pursue their passions fearlessly,” she states, emphasizing the impact of this recognition on her artistic journey and mission.
The inspiration behind Reynales’ art stems from her Filipino heritage, a testament to the rich cultural narratives and vibrant stories of her homeland.
“Art offered me a sense of purpose, hope, and fulfillment,” she recounts, noting the influence of her family and community on her pursuit of art.
In Milan, Reynales plans to showcase her painting “The Lifebuilder,” a tribute to the resilience and strength of women, particularly fitting as the event coincides with Women’s Month. The artwork symbolizes the nurturing and transformative power of women, resonating with audiences globally.
Discussing her selection for the award, Reynales credits her unique blend of abstraction and realism, alongside the depth and emotionality of her work, for capturing the attention of the international art community.
Facing the logistical challenges of attending the ceremony in Milan, Reynales is actively seeking support from the Filipino community through fundraising efforts. Her determination to represent the Philippines internationally is unwavering, as she prepares to navigate cultural differences and new environments with boldness and adaptability.
To aspiring artists and her fellow Filipinas, Reynales offers a message of hope and empowerment: “Embrace your uniqueness and never lose sight of your passion. The journey of an artist is one of continuous growth and exploration. Use your art as a tool for change, for healing, and for making a positive impact in the community.”
