The Philippines has achieved a significant milestone in the Miss Universe 2023 pageant, with its representative, Michelle Dee, securing the top spot in the ‘Voice for Change’ advocacy platform. The latest update from the pageant’s portal confirms Dee’s leading position following the closure of voting on November 13.
‘Voice for Change’ is a unique segment of this year’s Miss Universe, allowing contestants to showcase their advocacies through a three-minute video. The platform gave the public the opportunity to support the causes that resonated with them.
Michelle Dee, a 28-year-old Filipina, captured hearts with her passionate advocacy for autism acceptance, inclusivity, and empowerment. Drawing from her personal experience as the sister of two siblings on the autism spectrum, Dee’s message garnered an impressive 265,463 votes. She serves as a goodwill ambassador for the Autism Society Philippines (ASP), advocating for opportunities for individuals with autism to thrive and contribute to the community.
This voting round is crucial as it contributes to determining the top 10 silver finalists and three ‘Voice for Change’ gold winners of the pageant.
Dee was followed closely in votes by Nicaragua’s Sheynni Palacios, who focused on anxiety disorders, and Ukraine’s Angelina Usanova, highlighting the effects of war on youth.
In addition to the ‘Voice for Change’ platform, Miss Universe is also tallying fan votes through its official app. The contestant with the highest total votes will automatically advance to the semifinals.
Preparations for the Miss Universe 2023 pageant are in full swing in El Salvador, with the coronation night scheduled for November 18.
