The Philippines started strong in the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup Qualifiers with an impressive 4-1 victory against Kuwait in Uzbekistan, GMA News reported.
Katrina Guillou opened the scoring just two minutes into the match and later sealed the win with her second goal in the final minutes. The Philippines held a narrow 1-0 lead at halftime but dominated the second half. Bella Flanigan extended the advantage at the 17:58 mark, followed by Dionesa Tolentin’s strike at 13:05.
Kuwait managed a late goal with under five minutes left, but Guillou’s second goal solidified the win, marking the team’s largest margin of victory in a high-profile international tournament since their 5-2 win against Malaysia at the 2007 Asian Indoor Games.
The Philippines will next face host country Uzbekistan on Monday. The top two teams from each group, along with the best-ranked third-place team, will advance to the AFC Women’s Futsal Asian Cup in China. This tournament will also serve as a qualifier for the inaugural FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup, set to be hosted by the Philippines.
