The Philippines has earned the title of “Asia’s Best Cruise Destination 2023” at the recent World Cruise Awards, outshining competitors including India, Japan, and Thailand.
The honor was announced in Dubai last Sunday, as confirmed by the Department of Tourism (DOT). This is the first time the archipelago nation has secured this recognition.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco expressed her appreciation for the accolade. “This first-time recognition reflects the world’s strong preference for our captivating island destinations,” she remarked.
Additionally, the Philippines was also acknowledged as “Asia’s leading dive destination” this year by the World Travel Awards, a related event to the World Cruise Awards.
This positive attention comes as the country anticipates 128 cruise calls across 33 destinations, potentially bringing over 101,000 passengers and an estimated 50,000 crew members. Manila, Palawan, and Romblon have already hosted cruise ship guests this year. Other famous destinations, including Boracay and Subic, are set to receive cruise ships soon, while the DOT is promoting Mindanao as a future cruise hotspot.
In light of the pandemic’s impact on tourism, the Philippine government is redoubling efforts to enhance its allure for cruise ship tourists, aiming to rejuvenate its pandemic-stricken travel sector.
