The National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea has confirmed that two Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) ships collided with Chinese vessels in the West Philippine Sea, contradicting Beijing’s claims that the incidents were caused by Philippine actions.
According to the task force, the BRP Bagacay and BRP Cape Engaño encountered “unlawful and aggressive maneuvers” from the China Coast Guard while en route to Patag and Lawak Islands. The confrontations led to collisions, resulting in structural damage to both PCG vessels.
The task force reported that the BRP Cape Engaño was first hit when a Chinese ship, CCGV-3104, collided with its starboard side, causing a five-inch hole. Shortly after, another Chinese vessel, CCGV 21551, rammed the BRP Bagacay twice, causing minor damage.
Despite these incidents, both Philippine ships are continuing their mission to deliver supplies to personnel stationed on the islands. The PCG remains resolute in safeguarding the country’s maritime interests amid ongoing tensions.
