The Philippine National Police–Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) is set to reenter one of the world’s most demanding tactical competitions next week, as its contingent heads to Dubai for the 2026 UAE SWAT Challenge, scheduled from 7 to 11 February.
Ahead of the event, Philippine Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates H.E. Alfonso A. Ver received the team at the Philippine Embassy, where he acknowledged their role as national representatives in a field that draws elite law-enforcement units from across the globe. “Your commitment to excellence in the service of the nation has been consistently demonstrated and will undoubtedly be reflected through your discipline, teamwork, and performance in this prestigious competition,” Ver said.
The Philippine delegation is led by PLTCOL Ray V. Balcueva and will compete against 116 other teams from 52 countries in a tournament organized annually by Dubai Police. The challenge is widely regarded as one of the largest international platforms for tactical units, placing participants in simulated operations that test coordination, accuracy, endurance, and split-second decision-making under pressure.
PNP-SAF returns to the competition following its participation in the 2025 edition, where the Philippine team ranked 25th among 103 competing units. This year’s expanded roster highlights the growing scale of the event, which continues to attract military and police special units from multiple regions.
Also present during the embassy reception were Deputy Head of Mission Arvic V. Arevalo and Vice Consul Kevin Mark R. Gomez, along with representatives of the Anti-Narcotics International Assistance Group, Inc. (NARIAG) UAE, who joined in welcoming the contingent.
The 2026 UAE SWAT Challenge will be held at Dubai Police Training City in Al Ruwayyah and will again be open to the public, with free entry, live coverage, and prize incentives for top-performing teams and audience participants.
