Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin has ordered the cancellation of the Philippine passport of former Bamban Mayor Alice Guo. The directive, which extends to Guo’s relatives Wesley Guo, Sheila Leal Guo, and Cassandra Li Ong, was issued to the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Justice on Tuesday.
The action follows revelations by Senator Risa Hontiveros that Guo, identified as a Chinese citizen named Guo Hua Ping, left the country for Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on July 18. Immigration spokesperson Dana Sandoval later confirmed that Guo is currently in Indonesia.
Bersamin cited the New Philippine Passport Act, which allows the DFA Secretary to cancel a passport in the interest of national security, particularly if the holder is considered a fugitive from justice. Guo is currently the subject of a Senate arrest order for repeatedly failing to attend a Senate inquiry into illegal POGO activities.
Guo’s legal counsel, Atty. Stephen David, claims Guo is still in the country, though he admitted he cannot confirm her exact whereabouts.
