More Philippine companies are putting a premium on artificial intelligence (AI) skills when choosing new hires, according to a new survey by online job platform Jobstreet by SEEK.
The Hiring, Compensation and Benefits Report revealed that 72 percent of businesses across the country see AI knowledge as an advantage for job applicants. Of this figure, 36 percent consider AI expertise as “crucial,” treating it as either a top priority or as important as other qualifications.
Jobstreet noted that employers typically evaluate AI proficiency by giving technical questions during interviews or reviewing a candidate’s portfolio for relevant projects. Some businesses have also started using AI-powered tools to streamline their recruitment process, from automated screening to skills assessments.
The study, which polled more than 2,000 hiring managers across industries, also explored broader workplace trends. “Through this signature report, we delved into the outlook of the hiring market, compensation and benefits provided by hirers, with a focus on AI and workplace diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI),” said Dannah Majarocon, managing director of Jobstreet by SEEK Philippines. She added that the goal is to “guide our hirers and talent to stay ahead of these changes to better thrive in their business and careers.”
Beyond hiring criteria, the report found that 78 percent of companies provided salary increases last year, mostly in the one to five percent range. Bonuses remain common, with 53 percent offering performance-based rewards. The average bonus size also grew, reaching the equivalent of four months’ salary.
Jobstreet highlighted that small businesses are catching up with larger firms by improving benefits and revising pay structures. Many employers also now include medical coverage, health checks, and mental health support in their employee packages.
The firm earlier reported that the Philippines leads Southeast Asia in workplace DEI adoption, with 63 percent of local companies implementing initiatives in this area.
