As the Philippines commemorated its 127th Independence Day, Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso Ferdinand A. Ver called on Filipinos to reflect on the nation’s hard-fought freedom while embracing the country’s growing ties with the United Arab Emirates.
In his official message, Ambassador Ver underscored the relevance of this year’s theme — Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan (Freedom, Future, History) — noting how it not only honors the sacrifices of national heroes but also points to the collective duty of Filipinos to build a better tomorrow.
“This year’s celebration is particularly significant as we highlight the growing and strategic partnership between the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates,” he said.
Ambassador Ver highlighted how nearly one million Filipinos in the UAE have become the “foundation” of the two countries’ strong bilateral relations, which now extend into new and forward-looking areas. He recalled the official visit of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to the UAE in November 2024 as a turning point in elevating cooperation across critical sectors — from renewable energy and innovation to cultural exchange, public safety, and environmental protection.
“These achievements are not only symbolic of the growing trust between our nations but also tangible commitments to our shared vision for economic resilience, technological advancement, and sustainable development,” he noted.
He also praised the alignment between the UAE’s leadership in artificial intelligence and digital transformation and the Philippines’ aspirations in similar fields. He emphasized how Filipino professionals — from engineers to creatives — are thriving in these spaces, carrying with them the values of excellence, resilience, and dedication.
As the UAE observes its Year of Community, Ambassador Ver proudly acknowledged the vibrant contributions of the Filipino community, saying they continue to be key players not only in traditional sectors but also in knowledge-based industries.
“We honor their sacrifices and their vital role in strengthening Philippines-UAE relations,” he said, adding that Filipinos are actively shaping the present and future of both nations.
In closing, the ambassador reaffirmed the importance of celebrating freedom alongside the deepening and dynamic partnership between the Philippines and the UAE — a relationship he described as one built on shared purpose and mutual benefit.
“Mabuhay ang Pilipinas at UAE!”
