Philippine airports go paperless: New eTravel system launched

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Bureau of Customs announced that Philippine airports will soon transition to a paperless system with the enhanced eTravel system, aimed at improving the experience for arriving and departing passengers.

Accessible via the eGov PH app, the eTravel system now includes the Arrival and Departure Immigration Forms, Seaport Form, Cruise Form, Health Declaration Form, One Health Pass, Tourism Form, and eVisa. Recently added features include the Baggage Declaration Form, Currency Declaration Form of the Bureau of Customs, and the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Pass from the Department of Migrant Workers.

Passengers can complete these forms prior to their flights, streamlining the airport process. Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio emphasized the system’s goal: “It intends to efficiently make traveling a more seamless experience for every Filipino and every global citizen all while maintaining a balance with compliance requirements.”

During the ceremonial launch on Wednesday, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac highlighted the benefits for OFWs. “Yung bilis ng proseso sa airport at sa amin sa DMW at sa Customs at sa Immigration ay ibig sabihin nun they [OFWs] have more time with their families,” he said.

Officials stated that the enhanced eTravel system is expected to speed up airport processes, reduce lines, and improve the overall passenger experience. The system also provides real-time data on passenger arrivals and departures, which will aid government agencies in their operations.

“Government agencies benefit immensely from the streamlined coordination and real-time data sharing. This interconnectedness not only enhances operational efficiency but also fortifies our national security,” said DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy.

The DICT assured the public that robust cybersecurity measures are in place to protect data on the eGov app, which is available for free download. They also plan to add more features and encourage other agencies to integrate with the app.
