The Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) has confirmed that it covers hospitalization costs for heat-related illnesses as the country braces for soaring temperatures.
With government agencies warning of potentially dangerous heat indices, PhilHealth reiterated that conditions like heat stroke, heat cramps, and heat exhaustion are included in its benefit packages.
PhilHealth acting president and CEO Edwin Mercado stated that members and their dependents admitted to accredited hospitals due to heat stroke or heat exhaustion are entitled to a benefit package of ₱12,675. Meanwhile, those requiring hospitalization for heat fatigue can receive up to ₱18,135 in coverage.
To help prevent severe cases, PhilHealth encourages members to take advantage of its Konsulta Package for early consultations and symptom checks.
“We urge our members to stay hydrated, avoid excessive sun exposure, and seek medical help if they experience any symptoms of heat-related illnesses,” Mercado advised.
