The Philippine government will maintain its online voting system for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the upcoming 2028 elections, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
DMW Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac emphasized that despite some hesitations, the government remains committed to the digital voting system first introduced in the 2025 national and local elections.
“We are open to further discussions with the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on how to improve the implementation of internet voting,” Cacdac said.
The DMW highlighted the advantages of online voting, especially for OFWs who would otherwise need to travel long distances just to cast their ballots.
The department is closely monitoring voter turnout among OFWs in the ongoing 2025 elections as it looks to further enhance the system for the next polls.
