Private sector workers who report to work on Black Saturday, April 19, are entitled to special compensation, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
The reminder was issued under Labor Advisory No. 04, Series of 2025, following Malacañang’s declaration of April 19 as a special non-working holiday.
“For work performed during the special day, the employer shall pay the employee an additional 30% of the basic wage on the first eight hours of work (basic wage x 130%),” DOLE stated.
Overtime work done beyond eight hours will also earn an additional 30% on top of the regular holiday pay. Meanwhile, employees who work on their scheduled rest day that coincides with Black Saturday must be paid an additional 50% of their basic wage for the first eight hours.
Work beyond eight hours in this situation is entitled to another 30% on top of the rest day holiday rate.
On the other hand, the agency reiterated that the “no work, no pay” principle applies to those who skip work on Black Saturday—unless a company policy or collective bargaining agreement states otherwise.
