Travelers can expect reduced airfares this September as the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) has lowered the fuel surcharge level for both domestic and international flights. The surcharge, which helps airlines manage the fluctuating costs of jet fuel, will drop to Level 5 from the current Level 6, effective from September 1 to 30, 2024.
For domestic flights, this adjustment means a reduction in the fuel surcharge to a range of P151 to P542, depending on the flight distance. International passengers flying from the Philippines will see surcharges ranging from P498.03 to P3,703.11.
Cebu Pacific’s president and chief commercial officer, Xander Lao, welcomed the decision, describing it as a “positive development” that aligns with the airline’s commitment to providing affordable travel options. Similarly, Steve Dailisan, communications head of AirAsia Philippines, highlighted that the reduction will positively influence public booking behavior, allowing travelers to allocate more of their budget to other aspects of their trips.
Airlines interested in applying the new surcharge rates must file their applications with the CAB before the effectivity period ends.
