A 53-year-old British national, Michael Anthony John Caselberg, has successfully recovered from a series of severe gastrointestinal conditions, thanks to the expertise of Aster Cedars Hospital and Clinic, Jebel Ali, a member of Aster DM Healthcare. The multidisciplinary team at the hospital accurately diagnosed and treated Caselberg’s complex health issues, providing him with a new lease on life.
Caselberg presented with troubling symptoms, including severe acid reflux, chest discomfort, and altered bowel habits. A comprehensive evaluation led to the diagnosis of multiple critical conditions: Grade B Reflux Esophagitis, a large hiatus hernia, Barrett’s esophagus, erosive gastroduodenitis, and multiple colonic polyps. Among these, Barrett’s esophagus, which can increase cancer risk, and the large hiatus hernia—an uncommon condition affecting less than 5% of those with hernias—were of particular concern.
To address these conditions, Caselberg underwent Laparoscopic Fundoplication, a minimally invasive surgical procedure performed by Dr. Sandeep Patil, Specialist General Surgery at Aster Cedars Hospital. This advanced technique effectively treated his large hiatus hernia, strengthened the lower esophagus, and prevented further acid reflux, ensuring a faster and safer recovery.
