Pasay court orders release of actress Neri Naig amid syndicated estafa case

The Regional Trial Court Branch 112 in Pasay City has directed the immediate release of actress Neri Naig, confirmed by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) on Wednesday.

BJMP spokesperson Insp. Jayrex Joseph Bustinera announced that the bureau received the court’s release order earlier in the day. However, before her release, authorities are verifying if Naig has other pending cases or active arrest warrants.

“If no issues arise, we aim to process her release within the day,” Bustinera stated during a radio interview.

Naig’s release, despite facing accusations of syndicated estafa—a non-bailable offense—was granted by court order, without the need for bail, according to Bustinera. Details of the release order remain undisclosed.

The actress-businesswoman, who was arrested on November 23 and detained at the Pasay City Jail female dormitory, also faces charges of violating securities laws. She was hospitalized on November 29 for a medical evaluation and was expected to be discharged by December 4.

The arraignment for her securities violations has been rescheduled to January 9, 2025, following a motion to quash filed by her legal team.

Naig’s husband, Chito Miranda, frontman of the band Parokya ni Edgar, has publicly defended her, emphasizing that she was merely an endorser for Dermacare-Beyond Skin Care Ventures, the company implicated in the case.
