A political alliance for the 2028 national elections has begun to take shape as Partido Reporma publicly threw its support behind Vice President Sara Duterte’s bid for the presidency, naming Senator Rodante Marcoleta as the party’s preferred vice presidential candidate alongside her.
The endorsement was announced by former House Speaker and Partido Reporma chairman Pantaleon Alvarez, who framed the party’s position as rooted in policy considerations rather than individual appeal. He described the proposed Duterte-Marcoleta partnership as one centered on governance principles.
“Inday Sara Duterte has demonstrated the resolve to confront difficult issues directly and the humility to acknowledge political realities. We believe she possesses the steadiness and discipline necessary to restore confidence in public institutions,” Alvarez said.
He also cited Marcoleta’s background in legislation and constitutional matters as a key factor in the party’s decision. “Senator Rodante Marcoleta brings independence of judgment, clarity of principle, and legislative experience rooted in constitutional accountability. Together, this tandem reflects a leadership that bridges regions and unites diverse constituencies around national interest,” he added.
Alvarez, who once represented the first district of Davao del Norte, said the country needs to shift away from recurring political disputes. He argued that public office should focus on administrative direction and institutional management instead of partisan maneuvering, emphasizing the need to steer national leadership toward stability and order.
Duterte confirmed on Wednesday that she will seek the presidency in the 2028 elections, formalizing months of speculation about her political plans.
Hours after that declaration, a fourth impeachment complaint was lodged against her.
