Tragedy struck the heart of Seoul as renowned actor Lee Sun-kyun, famous for his role in the 2020 Oscar-winning film “Parasite,” was found dead in a car parked in the Jongno District. He was 48 years old. The actor had been under police investigation due to suspicions of drug use.
The discovery was made on Wednesday, following a distress call from Lee’s manager to the police at 10:12 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities confirmed Lee’s identity. Reports indicate that a suicide note was recovered from his apartment, adding a grim context to the incident.
Inside the car, police found a kneaded coal on the passenger seat, an item commonly associated with suicide attempts. Lee had been subjected to three rounds of police questioning since October, concerning his alleged drug use. During these interrogations, Lee reportedly confessed to snorting illicit drugs through a straw, believing them to be a sedative.
The last of these police interactions occurred just last Saturday, heightening the mystery surrounding his sudden death. While the circumstances hint at a possible suicide, the investigation is ongoing, and the exact cause of death remains undetermined.
