Malacañang on Friday called for public respect toward the Supreme Court following its decision to block the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte, citing constitutional grounds.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro emphasized that the executive branch has yet to thoroughly examine the ruling. “We have yet to review the full text of the Supreme Court’s decision. We call on everyone to respect the Supreme Court and place their trust in our institutions,” Castro said in a brief statement.
The Palace also reaffirmed its recognition of the separate powers of government, particularly in impeachment matters. “The impeachment process is a matter handled by the legislative and judicial branches, and we recognize their independence in carrying out their constitutional mandates,” Castro added.
Earlier, Supreme Court spokesperson Atty. Camille Ting clarified that the Senate could not proceed with the impeachment trial due to the constitutional one-year bar on such proceedings.
