Palace says Marcos too busy helping Filipinos to entertain Cayetano’s snap election idea

The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) has dismissed Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s proposal for a nationwide snap election involving all elected officials, saying President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has no time for such political distractions.

PCO Undersecretary Claire Castro, in a statement on Monday, October 6, said Cayetano’s call was merely his “wishful thinking.”

“It is just his wishful thinking. We do not have time to talk about one’s personal desires,” Castro said.

She emphasized that the President remains focused on his duties, particularly in assisting communities affected by the recent earthquake and typhoon.

“The President is busy working for the country and helping those affected by the earthquake and typhoon. He has no time for this kind of politicking,” she added.

Castro urged the public and political figures alike to “focus on the needs of the people, not just on personal interests.”

Meanwhile, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto also rejected Cayetano’s suggestion, warning that there is no constitutional or legal basis for holding a snap election in the Philippines.

“We have no constitutional nor legal framework for snap elections,” Sotto said. “We will be flirting with uncertainty and chaos.”
