Palace hits back at critics claiming First Lady’s photo was edited

Malacañang has dismissed online claims that a photo of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos was edited, calling on critics to present verified proof.

The statement came from Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro on Sunday, in response to speculation surrounding a photo uploaded on the First Lady’s official Facebook page on March 22. The image showed Marcos in a blue dress during a meeting of the Asian Cultural Council held at the Pangarap Clubhouse in Malacañang Park on March 21.

Some netizens alleged the image had been digitally altered. Castro fired back, saying those questioning the photo were not present and lacked any real knowledge of the event.

“Critics usually know nothing about the meetings. It’s easy to pretend as if they know everything,” Castro said. She challenged content creators spreading the claims to provide actual evidence to back their allegations.

This follows Castro’s earlier denial of rumors that Marcos was detained during her recent working trip to the United States. The First Lady visited Miami and Los Angeles from March 5 to 8 for events including the Meeting of the Minds and the Manila International Film Festival.

She also appeared publicly on March 15, leading the awarding ceremony at Go Negosyo’s Women Summit 2025.
