Philippine Airlines (PAL) is taking a major step toward closing the gender gap in aviation with its Fly With Her program, which aims to help aspiring women pilots achieve their dreams. In line with this advocacy, the airline has pledged ₱10 million to the PAL Foundation to fund scholarships for women pursuing a career in aviation.
“As we celebrate International Women’s Day, we reiterate our support for women who aspire to fly for PAL and even take on leadership roles within our organization,” said Alvin M. Miranda, PAL Vice President for Marketing.
Beyond financial support, PAL is also set to release a film based on the real-life journey of a young girl determined to become a pilot.
“When little girls see women in leadership positions, it inspires them to dream bigger and aim higher,” said Lilybeth T. Ng, PAL Assistant Vice President for Pilot Affairs.
Currently, women make up only around 6% of pilots worldwide, highlighting the need for greater inclusion in the field. PAL has been championing women in aviation for decades. In 1989, Captain Aimee Carandang-Gloria made history as Southeast Asia’s first female commercial airline pilot, later becoming the region’s first female airline captain in 1993.
PAL continues to break barriers, pushing for a more inclusive aviation industry through initiatives that empower women to take flight.
