Authorities in Las Piñas are examining a confrontation that erupted inside Bernabe Compound in Barangay Pulang Lupa Uno after a four-year-old child was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday night.
Tension escalated shortly after the accident, with residents gathering around the driver, a Pakistani national, as seen in videos now circulating online. Footage shows people crowding his car, hitting its exterior, and striking him. Voices in the background can be heard shouting, with several individuals insisting he should not be permitted to leave the area.
At one point in the recording, a man is seen climbing into the vehicle before being pulled out by another person.
Investigators said the crowd’s anger stemmed from a belief that the driver was trying to escape following the incident. Police, however, stated that the foreign national maintained he had no intention of abandoning the child, who has since been brought to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Las Piñas police chief P/Col. Wilson Delos Santos said the driver also reported losing personal items amid the commotion, including his wallet, identification cards, bank passbook, and P20,000 in cash.
After the incident, the child’s mother and the driver met at the police station. They reached an agreement that he would cover the young victim’s medical expenses. According to police, payments for part of the hospital bills have already been made.
Both the driver and several residents identified in the viral video are scheduled to appear before barangay officials on Monday.
