P8.55 million worth of kush found in abandoned NAIA parcels

Authorities intercepted a significant volume of kush marijuana worth P8.55 million hidden inside parcels left unclaimed at the Central Mail Exchange Center of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) confirmed.

On Friday morning, law enforcement officials uncovered 10 abandoned packages containing around 5.7 kilograms of kush, a high-grade variant of marijuana. The parcels had reportedly been in storage for several months with no one stepping forward to claim them.

According to PDEA, the shipments originated from various addresses in Thailand and were supposed to be delivered to recipients across Metro Manila and Iloilo. To evade detection, the parcels were falsely declared as items such as women’s scarves, baby toys, dried fruits, and rice.

Authorities conducted a K9 inspection following an order from the Bureau of Customs after the packages were flagged as abandoned. While no arrests were made, PDEA noted that the confiscated drugs have been turned over to their laboratory for testing and will form part of the evidence for possible criminal charges under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
