A 26-year-old man shared his regret online after losing his life savings of over ₱1.8 million to gambling, admitting that his addiction spiraled out of control.
Posting on Reddit, the netizen recounted how two years of hard-earned savings vanished after he became hooked on betting. Initially, he had won ₱1.8 million from gambling, planning to use it to buy a car and safely storing it in the bank. However, his habit led him to keep wagering his winnings.
He shared a chilling account of one of his losses, saying, “I bet ₱20,000 on baccarat and lost. I doubled it to ₱40,000 and lost again. Then tripled it to ₱120,000—still lost. It was nauseating.”
At one point, he turned a ₱200 bet into ₱230,000 but eventually lost it all. His financial situation worsened as he even went into debt, ending up with ₱20,000 owed and nothing to show for his earnings.
“I lived frugally for two years only to see my money disappear,” he lamented. “I’ve become no different from my father, who was also a gambler. I didn’t break the cycle—I created a new one.”
The post sparked a wave of reactions from netizens, with many sympathizing and sharing advice. “It’s not too late to change. Stop chasing the thrill and find healthier ways to seek fulfillment,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “You saved ₱800,000 before; you can do it again as long as you stop gambling.”
