OWWA says no Filipinos among casualties in deadly Air India plane crash

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) confirmed on Thursday that no Filipino nationals have so far been reported affected in the tragic crash of an Air India flight bound for London.

“As of now, no reported Filipino nationals affected po. We are continuously monitoring po,” OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan told the media.

The crash, which has become one of the deadliest aviation disasters in the past decade, occurred shortly after the plane took off from Ahmedabad, India. The aircraft, carrying 242 people, including 11 children and two infants, crashed into a residential area and medical college hostel during lunch hour, according to authorities.

Of those on board, 169 were Indian nationals, 53 were from the UK, seven were Portuguese, and one was Canadian. Only one survivor has been confirmed as of this writing.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. extended his condolences to the Indian government and to the families of those who perished in the tragedy.
