A Filipino overseas worker from Mindoro who is currently facing cervical cancer has received immediate medical and financial assistance from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) to support her treatment and ensure her family’s welfare.
OWWA said the intervention was carried out under the directive of Administrator Patricia Yvonne “PY” Caunan, with Region 4B Director Gerald “Dindi” Tan leading the agency’s efforts in coordination with field teams from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
During a welfare visit, OWWA provided the OFW with emergency support, including PHP 20,000 in WAP Medical Assistance released on January 30, along with an assessment of her medical condition.
After she was discharged from a hospital in Mindoro, the agency facilitated her transfer to Manila together with her family for further medical evaluation and chemotherapy.
OWWA also arranged family room accommodation for them and extended additional support, including transportation assistance and food assistance from Mindoro to Manila.
The welfare case was referred to OWWA through Senator Raffy Tulfo, while medical coordination was conducted with the Department of Health (DOH) under the leadership of Undersecretary Ma. Rosario “Molly” Vergeire.
OWWA expressed gratitude to partner agencies involved in the case, citing continued cooperation in ensuring the protection and welfare of overseas Filipino workers.
