The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) said Monday it is adding 10,000 more scholarship slots for qualified dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and seafarers.
With the additional allocation, the total number of available scholarship slots for 2026 will rise to 25,000, up from the previous 15,000 slots offered by the agency.
OWWA said the expansion was made possible by the continued growth of its trust fund, which has now reached P21.3 billion.
The agency currently offers three scholarship programs for OFWs and their families, including the Education for Development Scholarship Program, which provides financial assistance of up to P60,000 per school year for qualified dependents of active OWWA members taking a four- to five-year baccalaureate course until they complete their college degree.
Another option is the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program, which grants P20,000 per school year to eligible dependents who are enrolled or planning to enroll in a college or university in the Philippines, with the required monthly salary of the OFW subject to guidelines set by OWWA for each application period.
OWWA also continues to implement the Congressional Migrant Workers Scholarship Program, which supports deserving migrant workers and their immediate descendants pursuing college degrees in science and technology.
