Newly installed Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan has pledged to prioritize education and health support for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families under her leadership.
On her first day in office, Caunan committed to strengthening the agency’s scholarship programs—not just for the children of OFWs but also for the migrant workers themselves. “Kakaupo ko lang po kahapon pero kinu-commit ko po sa inyo, ang pag-aaralan natin, paano palawakin ang scholarship, hindi lang para sa anak ng OFWs kundi sa mismong OFW,” she said.
Caunan emphasized that many OFWs face challenges when a family member gets sick or when they need help funding education, and these are areas where OWWA can make a more meaningful impact. “Meron po silang tutulungan na may sakit na kamag-anak nila o meron po silang pag-aaralin na mga anak, so doon po tayo magfo-focus,” she added, while assuring continued support for repatriation and welfare programs.
She also announced plans to modernize OWWA’s digital services, aiming to streamline access to assistance for Filipinos abroad.
