OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan recently met with Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman to explore ways of enhancing and accelerating services for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families. Also present was Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Assistant Secretary for Finance and Internal Management Lolet Ilescas.
The meeting supports President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to strengthen government presence in the lives of Filipinos both at home and abroad, aligned with the administration’s push for a responsive and compassionate “Bagong Pilipinas.”
A key focus of the discussion was the proposed increase in the number of welfare officers and frontline personnel, both in the Philippines and overseas. This initiative reinforces DMW Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac’s advocacy to improve OFW protection, support, and reintegration through faster and more humane service delivery.
Administrator Caunan emphasized that the expansion of OWWA’s manpower will allow the agency to offer closer, more responsive, and compassionate assistance to OFWs. She affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring that no OFW is left behind.
