The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) has granted over P10.91 million in scholarships to dependents of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Western Visayas through its Education for Development Scholarship Program (EDSP).
According to Rizza Joy Moldes, the officer-in-charge of OWWA Region 6, beneficiaries under the EDSP will receive P30,000 per semester, amounting to P60,000 annually. From January to July 2023, OWWA supported 151 scholars.
Moldes also highlighted that for the academic year 2022-2023, there were 65 graduates from the program. Out of these, 14 graduated as magna cum laude and 19 as cum laude. These Latin honor graduates were acknowledged in a ceremony on August 11. During this event, 13 new scholars from Iloilo province were also presented with their notice of award (NOA) for the upcoming school year 2023-2024.
In related news, OWWA disbursed over P1.37 million on August 12, benefitting 56 individuals in Iloilo City. This fund was dedicated to livelihood programs, social insurance, further scholarships, and assistance for distressed OFWs.
