Overcoming adversity and thriving in Dubai’s real estate scene

In a city as vibrant and cosmopolitan as Dubai, many people are pursuing their dreams and making their mark. Among them is Ron Wilson A. Pena, a 30-year-old sales professional at Folkart Real Estate and Brokerage. With a mantra of “My challenges will bring a better me,” Ron has overcome personal and professional obstacles to find success in his chosen field.

Ron’s journey began with a tragedy. After his father’s passing in 2016, he felt the need to support his family financially and grow as an individual. Leaving the Philippines, he chose Dubai as his new home, drawn by its advanced and convenient lifestyle and the safety it offered.

Before settling into his current job at Folkart Real Estate, Ron gained experience in various industries. He worked as a barista at Figaro Coffee Shop, honed his sales skills at Subaru Motors, and even dabbled in buying and selling secondhand motorcycles, big bikes, and cars for three years.

Now, as an office-based sales professional at Folkart Real Estate, Ron has found his passion.

“What I love about my job is that every day is a learning process, and I feel like I become a better individual each day,” he shared.

He attributes much of his success to the company’s supportive environment, where there’s no pressure or quotas and the office ambiance is peaceful.

Ron also appreciates the opportunities he’s had to meet and learn from influential people in his field. He credits the work-life balance in Dubai for helping him gain motivation, initiative, independence, maturity, and adaptability.

However, Ron’s journey has not been without its struggles. The first six months were challenging, as he missed his family and had to find the strength to carry on. The COVID-19 pandemic also brought financial difficulties, with months of delayed salaries. To make ends meet, Ron took on part-time work on weekends and started an online business selling action figures and watches.

Despite these challenges, Ron has found happiness and fulfillment in Dubai. He married the love of his life in March and purchased their dream home in the Philippines, with plans to start a family next year. His future goals include saving money for the renovation of their newly bought house.

To fellow Filipinos struggling abroad, Ron offers these words of advice: “Always remember your goal, what brings you here. When you’re outside your comfort zone, it means you’re one step higher than your previous self, so embrace all the challenges in life. Try to enhance your skills and invest in yourself. If possible, try to save 10% to 20% of your salary.”

In the face of adversity, he has grown stronger, more skilled, and more adaptable, finding personal and professional success in Dubai’s real estate industry. As he continues to learn and grow, Ron serves as a shining example to others seeking to make their mark in the world.
