The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has suspended 671 driver’s licenses for involvement in road incidents and drug violations, calling it one of the agency’s most aggressive enforcement actions to date.
“This is unprecedented on the part of the LTO, 671 ang na-suspend na driver’s licenses as of today,” said LTO chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II in a GMA News Online report.
Of the total, 547 drivers were sanctioned for their roles in vehicular crashes—ranging from minor injuries to fatal accidents—while 97 others were suspended after testing positive for illegal drugs.
Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon emphasized the seriousness of the violations, saying the 90-day suspensions could escalate to full revocation depending on the outcome of ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, show cause orders have also been issued to bus companies linked to these incidents, and to owners of 1,165 vehicles that failed roadworthiness inspections.
Mendoza reaffirmed the LTO’s firm stance, noting that the agency will continue cracking down on drug use and ensure vehicles on the road are safe.
