Over 583,000 seatbelt violations recorded across UAE in 2024, says Ministry of Interior

UAE authorities reported a staggering 583,096 violations for drivers not wearing seatbelts across the country last year, according to recent statistics from the Ministry of Interior.

The data revealed that Abu Dhabi led the list with 361,858 recorded violations, followed by Dubai with 64,223 cases. Sharjah reported 127,176 violations, while Ajman saw 27,429 cases. Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah recorded 1,779, 135, and 496 violations, respectively.

The statistics also highlighted a significant concern with drivers disregarding traffic direction, with 40,166 violations documented nationwide. Dubai topped the list with 20,674 cases, while Abu Dhabi had 9,615, and Sharjah recorded 4,557 violations. Ajman reported 3,918 cases, Ras Al Khaimah had 580, and the remaining incidents were recorded in Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah.

Violations were not limited to seatbelt and traffic direction breaches. The report showed 21,894 cases of drivers occupying parking spaces reserved for individuals with special needs, with Abu Dhabi again recording the highest number at 10,395, followed by Dubai with 7,299 and Ajman with 1,450.

In addition, 730 violations were recorded for drivers parking in front of fire hydrants, a critical safety concern. Abu Dhabi accounted for the majority with 635 violations, while Dubai had 73, and the remaining incidents were scattered across other emirates.

Authorities emphasized that these violations stem from more than 30 traffic-related offenses, including operating vehicles without proper registration, expired licenses, or lacking essential safety features.
