The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced on Monday that over 5.3 million registered voters have been delisted from the official voter registration for the 2025 national and local elections (NLE). According to the latest data, a total of 5,388,421 voters have been deactivated as of August 19, while an additional 686,859 were deleted from the list.
The Comelec deactivated voter registrations due to various reasons, including failure to vote in two consecutive regular elections, court orders, loss of Filipino citizenship, and the submission of invalid documents. The deleted names were attributed to reasons such as death or multiple and double registrations.
Despite the removals, the total number of registered voters for the May 2025 polls now stands at 65.9 million, slightly below the 70 million target set by the Comelec. However, new registrations for the 2025 NLE have reached 5,372,424, with the Calabarzon region leading the count at 901,562 registrants, followed by the National Capital Region (NCR) with 712,458.
The voter registration period, which began on February 12, 2024, will continue until September 30, 2024. Applicants can register at any Comelec office nationwide from Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or through the Register Anywhere Program in designated locations like malls and schools. Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia confirmed that there would be no extension beyond the September 30 deadline.
