The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) recently uncovered 352 violations in labor accommodations across the UAE, following a series of inspections conducted from May 20 to June 7. According to a Khaleej Times report, the violations included inadequate ventilation and air conditioning, unsafe conditions for flammable materials, lack of proper sanitation, and general cleanliness issues.
The MoHRE’s inspections targeted residential facilities that house a significant portion of the 1.5 million workers residing in labor accommodations throughout the country. Over 1,800 companies are currently registered in the ministry’s electronic Labor Accommodation System.
In response to the violations, some companies were warned, fined, or given up to one month to rectify the issues in their accommodations. MoHRE emphasized its commitment to ensuring that labor accommodations meet high standards of comfort, safety, and security for workers.
“The ministry is committed to providing labor accommodations that meet the highest standards of comfort, safety, and security,” said Mohsin Ali Al Nassi, assistant undersecretary for Inspection Affairs at MoHRE.
Labor accommodations are required to offer an uninterrupted supply of clean, cold water and adequate bedroom and washroom facilities. Inspectors assess compliance with standards for health, safety, comfort, and environmental impact, ensuring that accommodations are safe and suitable for worker habitation.
