Over 350 Filipino cyclists in Dubai brave the heat for first Kalayaan Ride

More than 350 Filipino cyclists from over 45 teams gathered at Al Qudra Cycling Track in Dubai on June 7, 2025, for the inaugural Kalayaan Ride, a symbolic event held in the spirit of Philippine Independence Day.

The event, organized by Erwin Gutierrez, Arby Intal, and the 63.Mafia Team, transformed a simple coffee chat into a full-scale celebration in just two weeks. Their goal: to honor the courage of Filipino heroes and strengthen unity among Filipino cycling groups in the UAE during the Eid break.

“This wasn’t just a ride—it was a show of pride, resilience, and solidarity,” said one participant. The event offered three ride distances named after the three major island groups of the Philippines: Luzon (80 km), Visayas (100 km), and Mindanao (127 km).

Vice Consul Paola Ebora of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai witnessed the event, which saw smooth coordination and zero reported accidents despite Dubai’s intense heat. Free bike check-ups, food, drinks, and raffle prizes added to the festive atmosphere.

Organizers expressed gratitude for the strong turnout and support, promising to bring back the Kalayaan Ride next year—bigger and better.
