Over 300 road accidents in UAE last year linked to drivers not yielding to emergency vehicles

The UAE’s Ministry of Interior has recorded 325 traffic accidents across the country in 2024 caused by drivers failing to give way to emergency vehicles, including ambulances and police patrols.

Dubai topped the list with 160 incidents, followed by Abu Dhabi with 107. Other emirates also reported cases: Sharjah (17), Ajman (31), Ras Al Khaimah (5), Umm Al Quwain (3), and Fujairah (2).

Authorities reminded motorists that blocking emergency vehicles carries a hefty penalty—Dhs3,000 fine, six black points, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.

In response, Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority has rolled out the “Give Way to Emergency Vehicles” campaign, alongside Abu Dhabi Police and the Department of Municipalities and Transport. The initiative aims to boost public awareness and promote timely access for responders to emergency scenes.

Officials continue to call on drivers to act responsibly on the roads and play their part in saving lives by following traffic rules and clearing paths for emergency responders.
