Social media platform TikTok has taken down more than 3.8 million videos in the Philippines during the third quarter of 2023. These removals were a result of violations of the platform’s community guidelines.
In a recent statement, TikTok disclosed that a staggering 98% of these videos were removed proactively. Additionally, 87% of the content was removed before garnering any views, and 95% were eliminated within just 24 hours of being uploaded.
TikTok employs a combination of cutting-edge technology and human moderation to identify and assess potentially problematic content. Penalties for community guidelines violations may involve video removals and account bans.
The platform emphasized its commitment to crafting and adapting Community Guidelines that align with the ever-evolving digital landscape and emerging safety concerns. These guidelines are available in both English and Filipino.
TikTok engages in ongoing consultations with government agencies, diversity experts, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and even teenagers to shape its guidelines. The aim is to ensure that TikTok provides a secure and inclusive digital environment while adhering to local and global best practices.
Moreover, TikTok’s Regional Safety Advisory Council (SAC) collaborates with independent experts to develop forward-looking policies and processes, addressing not only present challenges but also anticipating future industry issues.
TikTok boasts a dedicated team of over 40,000 safety professionals who work tirelessly to maintain the platform’s safety. This workforce includes thousands of moderators worldwide, providing round-the-clock support to review and address content that may breach the platform’s policies.
