The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that 2,456 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) have been deployed to Kuwait since the reopening of its foreign employment market in June 2024.
Of this number, 125 are skilled workers, while 2,331 are domestic workers. The total also includes 45 direct hires assigned to members of the Kuwaiti Royal Family, according to a statement from the DMW.
The workers were sent in 23 batches after the Kuwaiti government lifted its suspension of visa issuance for Filipinos, which had been in effect since May 2023.
The DMW initially announced the resumption of OFW deployment to Kuwait in June, specifically targeting professional, skilled, and semi-skilled workers, as well as experienced domestic workers who had previously worked in the Gulf nation.
As more OFWs prepare to work in Kuwait, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac urged them to abide by local laws and respect their employers. “Your actions represent not only yourselves but also the Philippines,” he said.
Cacdac also emphasized the department’s commitment to protecting OFWs’ welfare. He encouraged workers experiencing maltreatment or abuse to seek help from the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) for immediate assistance.
