The Intelligence Department of Dubai Customs successfully intercepted a massive drug smuggling attempt through air cargo, preventing the trafficking of 200,000 restricted narcotics and pills valued at roughly Dh6.2 million.
The operation forms a crucial part of Dubai Customs’ overarching strategy to shield the community from security threats and maintain the UAE’s status as a secure and stable environment, favourable for investments.
The diligence of the specialized team led to the suspicion of two shipments arriving from an Asian country, prompting a meticulous inspection.
The first shipment included 20 parcels, harboring narcotics and restricted pharmaceuticals weighing 460kg and holding an estimated market worth of around Dh1 million.
In contrast, the second shipment, composed of 22 parcels, carried 520kg of Tramadol, equivalent to 175,300 tablets and a market value of approximately Dh5.25 million.
The involved individuals and confiscated goods have been turned over to the Dubai Police’s General Directorate of Anti-Narcotics to proceed with the necessary legal actions.
Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, the Director-General of Dubai Customs and CEO of Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation, emphasized the commitment to fostering safety through state-of-the-art systems and a dedicated workforce.
“Our mission is to enhance security measures and protect both our society and economy,” Musabih said, stressing Dubai’s leadership role in combating illicit substance trafficking on a global scale.
In highlighting the broader impact of such operations, Musabih praised the Dubai Customs Intelligence Department team for their unwavering commitment to national security and public safety.
