Around 2,000 police officers raided the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) compound in Davao City to execute an arrest warrant for Apollo Quiboloy and his co-accused, who face charges of human trafficking and sexual abuse.
During the operation on Saturday, a 50-year-old male member of KOJC suffered a fatal heart attack, and several others collapsed, with four being taken to the hospital, according to KOJC Minister Carlo Catiil.
According to a The PhilippineStar report, the raid, led by Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre II of the Police Regional Office-11, began at dawn, with officers breaching the 30-hectare property around 5:00 a.m. However, Quiboloy and several co-accused remain at large, except for Paulene Canada, who has been apprehended.
PNP spokesperson Colonel Jean Fajardo stated that the operation was well-planned following reports that Quiboloy was hiding in the compound. She emphasized that the raid was not an attack on KOJC but a lawful action to arrest fugitives and was conducted with “maximum tolerance and restraint.”
The arrest orders, issued by courts in Davao and Pasig, stem from accusations of child abuse, sexual abuse of a minor, and qualified trafficking. A Senate committee, chaired by Senator Risa Hontiveros, also issued an arrest order against Quiboloy for his refusal to attend hearings related to these allegations.
Quiboloy has denied all charges, claiming they are fabricated and citing threats to his life while in hiding.
