Over 10,500 workers in UAE receive financial support through insurance system

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) reported that over 10,500 workers across the UAE have received financial support through the Unemployment Insurance policy in 2024, Gulf News reported. This initiative provides critical aid to workers during periods of unemployment, strengthening social security for employees in both the public and private sectors.

Introduced as part of a comprehensive social safety net, the system now includes approximately 9 million subscribers. It offers financial compensation of 60% of an individual’s base salary for up to three months, providing stability while workers seek new job opportunities. This reflects the UAE government’s commitment to supporting employees during challenging times and promoting economic resilience.

Workers are divided into two categories under the system. Those earning Dh16,000 or less pay a monthly subscription fee of Dh5 and can receive a maximum monthly compensation of Dh10,000. Meanwhile, employees earning above Dh16,000 pay Dh10 monthly and are eligible for up to Dh20,000 in monthly compensation.

Eligibility for compensation requires a minimum subscription period of 12 consecutive months, and workers must not have been terminated for disciplinary reasons. Total compensation is capped at 12 months during an individual’s employment in the UAE. Exemptions apply to investors, domestic workers, temporary employees, individuals under 18, and retirees who have rejoined the workforce.

MOHRE emphasized the importance of the program in building a resilient and adaptable workforce while improving job security.
