The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) announced that the newly launched OFW Travel Pass has already processed 100,000 transactions, marking a major step in the government’s push to digitize services for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
The agency said the figure reflects its continuing commitment to modernize processes and provide faster, more efficient services for migrant workers in line with the directives of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
The OFW Travel Pass, introduced through the government’s eGovPH app, officially replaces the long-standing Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC). It now serves as the digital exit clearance and documentation for OFWs, particularly for balik-manggagawa or returning workers heading back to the same employer abroad.
According to the DMW, the mobile-based system allows OFWs to complete their travel documentation using only their smartphones, eliminating the need for paper certificates and long queues.
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac earlier explained that the initiative is currently in its pilot run under the eGovPH Super App, which aims to unify multiple government services in one platform.
He said that once fully rolled out, the digital Travel Pass will become the standard clearance document for all returning and eventually newly hired overseas Filipino workers.
