Authorities in Abu Dhabi have announced that over 100 individuals, suspected of being part of a criminal syndicate, are set to face trial for committing “crimes that threaten the state’s security, public order, and peace,” Khaleej Times reported.
After a seven-month investigation, the UAE’s Public Prosecution revealed that the defendants were involved in establishing and operating a gang known as ‘Bahloul’. This criminal group allegedly used illegal weapons and tools to intimidate victims, extort money, and then launder the illicit funds.
The gang also reportedly promoted their activities on social media platforms. The case has now been referred to the State Security Department of the Abu Dhabi Federal Appeals Court.
Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, UAE’s attorney-general, emphasized that the Public Prosecution has zero tolerance for criminal activities that threaten the safety and security of the country. He urged all residents to report any suspicious activities to help maintain the nation’s security.
